In countries with arid and semi-arid climate such as Iran with water constraints, the use of groundwater resources is very important. There are various mathematical based methods and software packages for modelling groundwater resources. This paper uses groundwater flow problems to illustrate possible approaches for providing the environment of active teaching. Mathematical models supported by software applications facilitate the gaining of an insight into the physical behaviors by investigating a host of scenarios and events but they are poor in training critical thinking for encapsulating the hardcore mathematical equations describing the problems. Whilst software engineering has transformed the intellectual capitals accumulated between the 20th century and the middle of the 21th century into working tools, it has the drawback of encapsulating core mathematics away from common experience of the students and practitioners. This diminishes critical thinking in a world of increasing risks and ought to be taken a serious side effect of software engineering. This paper suggests a solution by building up a library of solvers using spreadsheets, with the effect that the encapsulated knowledge of building modelling solvers can permanently be brought to life in education with the active learning culture. Implementation was carried out in the same way for steady state flow as well as explicit 2D and 3D finite difference approximation for transient flow. This study raises concern about the encapsulated body of knowledge contributed to the emergence and the establishment of modelling software applications since 1980. This body of knowledge comprise a deeper understanding of equations of often partial differential equations describing physical problems, as well as their numerical transformation into systems of equations and their subsequent properly- and improperly posed systems of equation in terms of their assumptions and quality conditions. The outcome is the emergence of a cookbook mentality among the new breed of mathematical modelers without any critical thinking. The results revealed that spreadsheet can be used with the aid of the Solver function. This idea capitalized on the capabilities of the net-generation and opens up the possibility for the emergence of bottom-up open source modelling platforms.[...] Read more.
Objective: The COVID-19 pandemic situation has deeply affected students' psychological, financial, and career problems. The objective of our study is to find out the prevalence and identify significant risk factors of psychological, financial and career effects among the students in the pandemic.
Methods: The cross-sectional survey was performed online via multiple social media sites such as Facebook, Email, WhatsApp, and the survey included 723 individuals. Chi-square analysis was performed to show the association between different selected factors and psychological, financial and career problems. Risk factors were obtained by logistics regression on the basis of p-value (p-value<0.05).
Findings: Our findings illustrate that 68.11% of students suffer from depression, 60.86% from anxiety, 61.98% from a mood disorder, and 63.23% from financial difficulties, such as being unable to afford the cost of education, working frustrated all the time, and losing interest in many things. Binary logistic regression demonstrated that student’s gender, feeling helpless, worried, lost interest, educational expenses, and opinion of solve the problems and
problems for prolonging education system were the risk factors of career effects. On the other hand, student’s gender, marital status, feeling bad about yourself, symptoms of corona virus, feeling nervous, short term memory loss, mood change, communicating problem, lost interest, feeling helpless, continue of income, study interrupt, irritable mood were associated factors of psychological problems. Family income status, feeling bad about yourself, lost interest, educational expenses, continue of income source, study interrupt, reason of study interrupt, were the factors associated with financial problems.
Novelty: We have found many statistically significant risk factors of the psychological (depression, anxiety and mood disorder) as well as financial and career of the students in the pandemic situation, which have not been discussed in previous studies.[...] Read more.
Data security has become a significant issue nowadays with the increase of information capacity and its transmission rate. The most common and widely used techniques in the data security fields is cryptography. Cryptography is the process of concealing and transmitting data in an appropriate format, so that only authorized people can access and process it. The main goal of the cryptographic process is protecting data from being hijacked and altered. This paper proposes an algorithm for encrypting data through the use of Deoxyribo Nucleic Acid (DNA) sequence and four-dimensional hyper chaotic system. Whereby, the hyper chaotic system is applied to generate a binary sequence which is later passed to a permutation function for the key generation of the first level encryption. The proposed encryption algorithm includes several intermediate steps, which are binary-coded form and the generation of arbitrary keys. Experimental results were analyzed by calculating encryption time, key generation time, histogram and correlation coefficient entropy. Furthermore, the proposed text encryption algorithm is implemented on two different students’ datasets to improve the security of educational systems. Finally, experimental and comparative studies have shown that, the proposed encryption algorithm reported a uniform encrypted text distribution and correlation coefficient values nearer to ‘0’, which are close to the theoretical optimal value.[...] Read more.
A slow-fast dynamical systems can be investigated qualitatively and quantitatively in the study of nonlinear chaotic dynamical systems. Slow-fast autonomous dynamical systems exhibit a dichotomy of motion, which is alternately slow and quick, according to experiments. Some investigations show that slow-fast dynamical systems have slow manifolds, which is supported by theory. The goal of the proposed study is to show how differential geometry may be used to examine the slow manifold of the dynamical system known as the mitotic model of frog eggs. The algebraic equation of the flow curvature manifold is obtained using the flow curvature technique applied to the dynamical mitosis model. Using the Darboux invariance theorem, we then argue that this slow manifold equation is invariant with regard to the flow.[...] Read more.
Quantum computing is a computational framework based on the Quantum Mechanism, which has gotten a lot of attention in the past few decades. In comparison to traditional computers, it has achieved amazing performance on several specialized tasks. Quantum computing is the study of quantum computers that use quantum mechanics phenomena such as entanglement, superposition, annealing, and tunneling to solve problems that humans cannot solve in their lifetime. This article offers a brief outline of what is happening in the field of quantum computing, as well as the current state of the art. It also summarizes the features of quantum computing in terms of major elements such as qubit computation, quantum parallelism, and reverse computing. The study investigates the cause of a quantum computer's great computing capabilities by utilizing quantum entangled states. It also emphasizes that quantum computer research requires a combination of the most sophisticated sciences, such as computer technology, micro-physics, and advanced mathematics.[...] Read more.
An innovative and creative docking technique known as cross- docking (CD) strategy was initiated in 1930s to make supply chain fast and productive. However, it only became popular from 1980s. Vehicle routing between suppliers/customers to CD terminal (CDT) is one of operational level problems at CDT. Moreover, moving unloaded products from indoors to outdoors of CDT is one of the internal operations inside a CDT. The main difference between this study and the existing studies which find in the literature is that to consider the activities inside CDT. Also, loading or unloading shipments at all the nodes including CDT are taken into account. Moreover, homogenous fleets of vehicles within pickup or delivery process are assumed, but heterogeneous fleets of vehicles between pickup and delivery processes are assumed in this study. A mixed integer non-linear programming model is developed to address this problem. In our proposed model, costs of transportation between nodes, service at nodes including CDT, moving shipments inside CDT and vehicle operation are considered as the contributors to the total cost. The proposed model was tested for fifteen randomly generated small scale problems using Branch and Bound algorithm and the algorithm was run using LINGO (version 18) optimization software. The average computational time to reach the optimal solution is estimated. The study revealed that for small scale problems, the convergence rate of the problems rises to polynomial with degree 6. Also, the study shows that for moderately large and large scale problems the computational time to reach the optimal solution is exponential. Therefore, this study recommends using a suitable evolutionary algorithm to reach a near optimal solution for moderately large and large scale problems. It further recommends that, this model can be used for last time planning for similar small scale problems.[...] Read more.
A fundamental principle and assumption of cosmology says that the universe is homogeneous and isotropic when viewed on a large scale. According to the cosmological principle, space might be flat, or have a negative or positive curvature in cosmological model. Positively curved universe denotes the closed universe and negatively curved universe denotes the open universe. Our universe type is flat because it expands in every direction neither curving positively nor negatively. We have observed that the progression of the universe is based on radiation and matter domination. In this paper we also have observed that future possible upper limit age of the universe is 9.4203×〖10〗^10 years which varies with density.[...] Read more.
