E-learning refers to the way people communicate and learn electronically which has only recently emerged as a key source of competitive advantage in the information society. With the development of the Information and Communication Technologies, E-Learning is argued to become a new and effective learning method and environment besides classroom based learning. Although still an emerging field, many researchers suggest that it offers many benefits that are radically different from a conventional classroom-based learning environment and can still generate result for students. It could be providing independent learning programme for internal students, external students, distant students, and training purpose. However, it is also revealed in literature that E-Learning has been used more indirectly as a tool for organising study courses and educational programmes. The questions such as “can E-Learning be made as a learning strategy” and “can E-Learning replace classroom-based modes of learning and teaching” remain unanswered. This research intends to explore various aspects with regards to how and to what extent E-Learning has been used to improve teaching and learning activities using the University of Bolton as a case study. It also intends to verify the main findings from the literature review via employing a case study approach and hence make comparisons between the national trends of E-Learning usage and the chosen case. The main research findings from this study are presented in this paper.[...] Read more.
China’s higher education has been going through a period of rapid expansion in undergraduate population, and this means a much heavier demand on teaching resources such as laboratories, experiments, teaching staff, etc., which cannot possibly be made available all of a sudden. To deal with this situation, we found virtual reality (VR) technology very helpful. Virtual reality (VR) has found many applications in education; and the resources of virtual education such as virtual campus, virtual laboratory etc. are used more and more widely, especially in the field of higher education. But so far virtual campus was mainly regarded as a means of image exhibition, and virtual laboratories were no more than 2D display of experimental processes and equipments. To make better use of these resources, this paper puts forward the concept of networked virtual experiment systems based on virtual campus by combining the virtual laboratory and virtual campus with the technique of LAN (Local area network), and establishes its theoretical model. Finally, a networked virtual experiment system based on virtual campus is developed using VRML and 3DSMAX. Networked virtual experiment system based on virtual campus has a promising future for various applications in higher education.[...] Read more.
The purpose of this paper is to explore which factors influence group learning content, and content analysis is chosen as the research method. The sample for this study is the literature of group learning. 35 books and 1 paper was examined. The coding system for the content analysis is an opened and a self-expanded system in this study, which means that the original coding system can be updated if the new coding item is developed during the data collection. A total of 62 influencing factors are identified in terms of the content analysis. In order to organise them systematically, we categorised them into four aggregations according to one model of the group learning processes:planning, organising, learning process, and evaluation. The result of this study may be used to design a questionnaire and to model group learning process in our further research.[...] Read more.
Teachers’ Specialism is a world development trend and fashion, but also the needs and the direction of teacher education reform. After the latest curriculum reform, the educational reform and development of math, teachers have become universally concentrated and thoughtful in the field of mathematical education. The study adopting questionnaires and telephone interviews carried out a sample survey to 59 common high school math teachers from 3 provinces, and analyzed the connection between math teachers’ specialism and educational background by the statistical analysis tool SPSS quantitatively and qualitatively. The study shows that both mathematical science knowledge and mathematical educational skills have an obvious connection with the educational background, while there’s little connection between mathematical educational knowledge and the educational background. The study points out a relevant strategy which high school math teachers should attach the same important to pre-job training and post-job training.[...] Read more.
According to the high-dimensional sparse features on the storage of textual document, and defects existing in the clustering methods or the hybrid methods which have already been studied by now and some other problems. So an improved text clustering method based on hybrid model, that is a text clustering approach (short for TGSOM-FS-FKM) based on tree-structured growing self-organizing maps (TGSOM) and Fuzzy K-Means (FKM) is proposed. The method has optimized the clustering result through three times of clustering. It firstly makes preprocess of texts, and filters the majority of noisy words by using an unsupervised feature selection method. Then it used TGSOM to execute the first clustering to get a rough classification of texts, and to get the initial clustering number and each text’s category. And then introduced LSA theory to improve the precision of clustering and reduce the dimension of the feature vector. After that, it used TGSOM to execute the second clustering to get more precise clustering results, and used supervised feature selection method to select feature items. Finally, it used FKM to cluster the result set. In the experiment, it remained the same number of feature items and experimental results indicate that TGSOM-FS-FKM clustering excels to other clustering method such as DSOM-FS-FCM, and the precision is better than DSOM-FCM, DFKCN and FDMFC clustering.[...] Read more.
To determine the need for simulated training of e-commerce activities prior to working in the real environment, we studied the views of undergraduates and college teachers from several aspects. Two hundred university students while also 200 college teachers were asked what the real problem was when they learned or taught in the e-commerce courses. Next, they were surveyed to inquire what knowledge they really need when students go to work positions and what type of job do they expect to have. Finally, they were asked whether using a simulated training platform would be beneficial. Through analysis, the aspects which are contained above we know that simulation should be incorporated into the education of e-commerce to students as a tool to practice their hands-on abilities prior to working. And from the survey we also obtain some useful information and references that may help us to design our electronic commerce training platform.[...] Read more.
To achieve higher education internationalization and improve the comprehensive ability of graduates, according to the education characteristics and development model of graduates for computer specialty in financial and economical colleges, the intrinsic relation between computer and English, and the importance of graduates for implementing bilingual teaching in financial and economical colleges, an effective training project of bilingual teaching for computer graduates in financial and economical colleges is proposed in this paper, which is based on years of teaching experience in practice and suitable for the economy development demands in China. In addition, a more perfect measure for computer graduates in financial and economical colleges is also introduced in this paper, so that the education of computer graduates in financial and economical colleges is different from the computer specialty in comprehensive universities. It can build a good basis and provide a feasible approach to training the comprehensive talents by performing bilingual teaching that are needed urgently in international communities.[...] Read more.
With the development of globalization, higher engineering education has been on the rise which includes five Stakeholders and five relationships. This paper will discuss five relations of higher engineering education: teaching, research and social services, professional education and humanity education, ability education and knowledge education, theoretical teaching and practical teaching, development of education and development of national and regional economy. Among them, teaching, research and social services are three major functions of higher engineering universities; professional education and humanity education, ability education and knowledge education, theoretical teaching and practical teaching are the goals of higher engineering education; development of education and development of national and regional economy involve the interaction between higher engineering universities and society. Furthermore, the five stakeholders are students, teachers, universities, employers and governments. The five relationships and five stakeholders of higher engineering education are reunified firstly, and at the same time, the driving force of various interests of higher engineering education is analyzed thoroughly at the higher level for guiding and enlightening the future development of our country’s higher engineering education.[...] Read more.
