In this paper, we present a novel computational framework for assisting and assessing memorization tasks. Such a framework can be used in any cases where certain level of memorization is needed, like in memorizing words/sentences, learning (programming) language structures, etc. We aim to identify the common memorization steps followed in various disciplines and then automate some of these steps to enhance memorization process. Particularly, we focus on annotation of texts (used for memorization) based on state of the art image processing techniques. Once texts are annotated and optionally commented, personalized tests can be automatically generated, focusing on the weakness of a particular student. These tests can further enhance the memorization process. As a case study, we have implemented the framework for a classical example of memorization: memorizing the Qur’an, the sacred book in Islam. Qur’an memorization is a well-known process since the early days of Islam and represents an ideal case for implementing the proposed framework.[...] Read more.
A number of recommendations for the adoption of ICTs in tackling traffic congestion problems in developing countries have been made in studies. Such studies have rather focused on assessing and evaluating the causes and effects of gridlocks than proffering solutions. The absence of implementable ICT models that can be effectively deployed to salvage the gridlocks, especially those generated by cargo transporters has added to the movement difficulty in these countries. This paper formulates a mobile device-based model supported by web technologies, called MobileCGM that can help avoid incidences of gridlocks emanating from Tin Can Island and Apapa sea ports in Lagos, Nigeria. This novel approach will allow timely pick-ups and deliveries of freights in the area by utilizing the deep penetration of GSM and mobile network services in Nigeria to solve the local problem. The model design and specification of the framework was achieved using the Unified Modelling Language (UML). The implementation of this model will render it needless for trucks and transporters to hang around the vicinity of where their cargos will be dropped off or picked up or cluster on the roads, as both cargo owners and transporters will know in advance when to pick up or deliver their cargo and get there just in time.[...] Read more.
Cloud Computing offers computing as a service on demand. It doesn't provide services only to business, industries and organization. Apart from the commercial usage cloud can be utilized by individuals for domestic purposes. Such a cloud is known as family cloud. This paper speaks about the cloud services that are useful to collaborate members of a family with themselves and also with their relatives and friends. A brief discussion on various cloud services suitable for families is done. The service providers and website address of the family cloud services are tabulated. This paper also justify that cloud helps families to collaborate on budget, grocery shopping, to-do lists and other schedules.[...] Read more.
For the last few years,Global Software Development (GSD) has been gaining attention of experts and researchers. Because of distance, communication and cultural issues GSD is creating hurdles for performing effective project management. In this regard, GSD provides a large number of tools and technologies to facilitate and simplify the work for project managers. To accomplish this task we have used a framework. The results of the study of 21 existing tools reveals that although GSD tools show dominating strengths in achieving some Project Management (PM )goals, yet much work needs to be done. Comprehensively, there is an ultimate need of a single GSD that could facilitate every aspect of PM.[...] Read more.
One of the most challenging tasks in the education sector in India is to predict student's academic performance due to a huge volume of student data. In the Indian context, we don't have any existing system by which analyzing and monitoring can be done to check the progress and performance of the student mostly in Higher education system. Every institution has their own criteria for analyzing the performance of the students. The reason for this happing is due to the lack of study on existing prediction techniques and hence to find the best prediction methodology for predicting the student academics progress and performance. Another important reason is the lack in investigating the suitable factors which affect the academic performance and achievement of the student in particular course. So to deeply understand the problem, a detail literature survey on predicting student’s performance using data mining techniques is proposed. The main objective of this article is to provide a great knowledge and understanding of different data mining techniques which have been used to predict the student progress and performance and hence how these prediction techniques help to find the most important student attribute for prediction. Actually, we want to improve the performance of the student in academic by using best data mining techniques. At last, it could also provide some benefits for faculties, students, educators and management of the institution.[...] Read more.
The goal of an intelligent answering system is that the system can respond to questions automatically. For developing such kind of system, it should be able to answer, and store these questions along with their answers. Our intelligent QA (iQA) system for Arabic language will be growing automatically when users ask new questions and the system will be accumulating these new question-answer pairs in its database. This will speed up the processing when the same question(even if it is in different syntactical structure but semantically same) is being asked again in the future. The source of knowledge of our system is the World Wide Web(WWW). The system can also understand and respond to more sophisticated questions that need a kind of temporal inference.[...] Read more.
